The group, whose name refers to the macaw bird native to the region and whose members are presumed to have indigenous origins, is driven by an anti-imperialist and environmentalist ideology. Their primary motivation is to expose corruption, human rights abuses, and the exploitation of natural resources and native communities by governments and transnational corporations. Guacamaya distinguishes itself through its capability to conduct terabyte-scale data exfiltration from military and government agencies across multiple countries, combining technical proficiency with a strong ideological conviction. They publicly disseminate stolen data through platforms like Distributed Denial of Secrets and Enlace Hacktivista, aiming to promote transparency and accountability.
