Magic Kitten is an Iranian state-sponsored cyber espionage group, with its earliest observed custom malware samples dating back to 2007. The group is primarily motivated by intelligence gathering and is assessed with high confidence to be linked to the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, which distinguishes it from other Iranian groups often associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Also known by the aliases VOYEUR (NSA) and Group 42, Magic Kitten is considered an early and persistent Iranian threat actor. Its activities sometimes overlap with or are considered an alias for the broader APT35, also known as Charming Kitten or Magic Hound, which has demonstrated continuous evolution in its operational methods.
